"To be truly happy and contented, you must let go of what it means to be happy or content."
(Confucius)

Gong Hey Fat Choy

Chinese New year already - and we wish you all a wonderful year in this year of the Fire Pig!

Coming through the door of our clinic are more and more people suffering stress and emotional trauma which underpins so much of their health and life challenges, so we would like to share some options for those times when you feel that life is becoming too heavy to deal with - some choices that may help you make a leap out of the pit and back into the joy of existence.

Because despite the doom and gloom that is projected all around us - environment change, terrorism, rising interest rates, petrol prices, crime - you name it.. hey .. there is also joy, love, friendship, sunshine, picnics, sharing, simple hands to hold, hearts to join and times to be uplifted into the lightness of being.  Sometimes you need a hand to recall the light side - it is extended to you today and always - please don't hesitate to reach out and take it.

Best wishes to you all
Sahaja & Shazar

Happiness is an attitude.  We either make ourselves miserable or happy and strong.  The amount of work is the same. Francesca Reigler

A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.
Hugh Downs

Testimonial:

You have lifted layers of tension, guilt and frustration from me, and with each visit, I feel a greater lightness of being.
I am so very grateful.

Some statistics from the Health Industry..

Mood and behaviour disorders such as anxiety, ADHD, depression and dementia have reached epidemic proportions in our modern society. The highest selling drug category in the USA and Australia are medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics and anti anxiety drugs. Mental disorders are the leading cause of disability with 1 in 4 adults over 18 years suffering from a diagnosable mental disorder.

Recent figures show that since the inclusion of Ritalin in the PBS, prescriptions for Ritalin rose over the next six months, from 523 a month  to more than 5800 a month, with no apparent decrease in other medications.

Federal figures for 2003 show 250,000 prescriptions for Prozac and similar drugs –  were issued to children and adolescents. That was 30,000 more than the previous year. Three-quarters of them went to people aged 15 to 18, with about 15,000 going to children under 10.

Do we need to tell you more?  We certainly could, the figures go up and up and all the evidence is there.  It appears that we are in the grip of an anxiety epidemic.

And this is flowing into our clinic, children and adults with problems which are very often associated with underlying anxiety, difficulty dealing with excessive stress levels, and depression.

Do all of these people need drugs to help them through these crises in their lives?  Not in our experience.

So what helps? Yes there are other solutions besides adding more chemicals into our body.

Stress release, assisting people to understand their predicament, an empathetic ear to problems often not expressed for years,  assistance to understand the roots of anxiety are all invaluable in bringing light to the situation.

Detoxification programs can also do much to relieve chemical stressors which are known to trigger emotional disorders. For example, the mood altering properties of heavy metals in the body can create:

  • Reduced IQ
  • Slowed body growth
  • Hearing problems
  • Behaviour or attention problems
  • Failure at school
  • Kidney damage

Chronic exposure to repeated small doses of pesticides may produce symptoms such as nervousness, slowed reflexes, behavioural abnormalities, irritability, hyperactivity, moodiness and a general decline in health.

But hey - it is not irreversible.  A good detox program can be very helpful - homeopathics,  have been found to assist greatly in our experience.  And let us not forget the wonderful tool of kinesiology. Using these techniques both adults and children can re-build their tolerance to stress, and walk out feeling lighter than they have in months.

There are of course also simple things you can choose to do yourself.

  • Take a daily walk - connect to the sky, the nature, the bigger picture.
  • Read uplifting books, recommended are Deepak Chopra and similar.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid food additives and chemicals in your food.
  • Don't use pesticides or insecticides
  • Exercise - creates happy juice in the body.
  • Hugs - touch, connection with those around you.
  • Turn off the television.
  • Don't read the bad news.
  • Listen to beautiful music.
  • Take some morning sun.
  • If you are alone, invest time and love in a pet.
  • Avoid alcohol and other mood altering substances - temporary quick fixes most often have the effect of letting you down afterwards.
  • Get up, get out, and do something that makes you feel good.
  • And if you need a hand, give us a call, drop us an email - ask for help.

"Many a heavy sigh I heaved in my despair, Grieving that I was born in such an unlucky time...
I yoked a team of jade dragons to a phoenix-figured car,
And waited for the wind to come, to soar up on my journey."

(Qu Yuan, ancient Chinese poet)
